"Is that yours?"
Yolanda was familiar with the assumed consideration that some species that were alien to one's own were said to 'all look alike.' Though, she was starting to think that Steve had no concept of observation, or he was secretly getting a rise out of annoying Carlos. Yolanda took a deep breath. "No, he's not," she answered. "I'm human where he's Etimonian." Though as she began to explain, it came to mind that 'Steve's' culture may have traded in more than mates. Or, it was possible that he had simply observed her maternal instincts. "I do have a son of my own, however. He's just not here. He was separated from his mother in all this chaos. I'm sure she's worried sick about him."
As Yolanda took the boy in her arms, resting him on her hips, she couldn't help but relish the familiar feeling. How long had it been since David had let her hold him as such. Recently, he had been too excited and just wanting to explore everything around him. Of course, it seemed that 'Steve' had decided to mimic more of the behaviors he had seen as he quickly clung to Carlos like a koala bear.
"You're pushing your luck, you know," Carlos said to him and 'Steve' stared up at him blankly.
"What am I pushing?"
'Steve' asked.
"You have legs. Use them," Carlos tried to explain. She could see that the bouncer's patience was wearing thin, but grateful for that he hadn't thrashed 'Steve' already. Especially not in front of the Etimonian child.
"He has legs," Steve replied back gesturing to the young boy with a long, slender finger. Carlos frowned.
Yolanda shook her head. It was pretty evident that these two could have been quite a pair in some sort of comedic holo-novel, but Yolanda was certain that Carlos wouldn't agree. "Um... but he's a very young adolescent," Yolanda attempted to explain. "Many of our cultures carry our younger children when they're afraid, or to protect them." She paused a moment, realizing that her argument was possibly justifying 'Steve's' position. "However, once they are adults, we expect them to stand on their own. You... aren't a child." Yolanda paused a moment, and then almost regretted asking just in case it did more harm than good. "Are you?"
She wanted to dismiss the notion just about as quickly as she asked it. Her eyes turned back towards the people. "We should get moving," she said deciding to urge them on. Not only for the child's sake and his mother, who was probably pulling out her hair, but for Carlos' as well. Or perhaps it was for 'Steve's' sake because there was no telling how much more patience Carlos had left.
