”He has experience with Sunland and he says that he has the situation in hand. Let's let him play this out."
Desan couldn’t imagine any situation in which the first officer of the station was held up at phaser point genuinely being under control, but of his worries right now, Sunland was a small one. Furthermore, she wasn’t going anywhere fast with the top of the station on lockdown. If Raal needed a new first officer, that was his problem, not Desan’s.
"I'll deal with Lyras personally."
He was pretty certain that with the first officer busy, and with the pips of a Commander, there was some spiel he was responsible for saying, like “No, Captain, it’s too dangerous!” or “But you’re a delicate flower and I’m a strapping display of machismo!” or something along those lines.
”And if you're inclined to argue about my personal safety, I'll hear your grievance on the way. Lieutenant, stand by to energize."
Desan really didn’t care about the “act” of a Commander to bother saying useless things that would just be ignored, so he said nothing, and checked the power level of his sleek, black-bodied phaser before taking position beside Raal.
"Julian will have my head, later. In the meantime, I've got your back."
“I’ll assure him that I’ve signed your permission slip,” Desan said, grinning at Gwen. He wondered if there was ever a Captain who’d said, “You’re right Number One, how about you go along instead.”
"Energize."
He crouched somewhat so that he would be prepared for whatever might be facing him, before the transporter beam took him away.
