Why had she ever dared to close her eyes? Fatigue had weighed heavily upon her, and despite her gut instinct to stay vigilant, Alyssa had chosen to acquiesce to both her nature desire for rest and to Nathan’s insistence that she sleep.
She should have known better.
It took time for her to even realize something had gone wrong, and some time more to realize what had gone wrong. Between the bruise forming on her head. the gash on her arm, and the scene all around her, Alyssa’s mood was as sour as it was going to get.
With all her might, Alyssa pushed the steel beam that was nearly pinning her in place aside. She slid herself out, scrapping a jagged piece of metal along her side. Bearing the pain with a clenched fist, Alyssa began searching her surroundings.
Nathan. Where was he?
“NATHAN!” Alyssa bellowed. She searched only until the roof above her was ripped open, and the dangerous situation they had found themselves in became all the more volatile. She quickly made her way to the nearby airlock and pulled the release lever. With considerable effort, the mechanisms finally released and opened up an avenue of escape for herself and those around her.
“Everybody…” Alyssa exclaimed. “OUT!”
The area surrounding the transport was hardly safer. She pinpointed at least three mechanical beasts that looked like a bastardized collections of metals and glass. Some were the size of a Yorkshire Terrier while others were the size of a two story building.
All-in-all, they were in a bad place.
Though Nathan was still no where to be seen, Alyssa had no choice but to evacuate the area as quickly as possible. She caught sight of a brunette on her way out, ran up beside her, and urged her to follow.
When they were clear of the immediate threat, Alyssa stopped and turned to her companion. “Are you alright? Do you feel--?”
A rustling from their side cut her off, prompting her to place herself between the young woman and the unknown newcomer.
“Identify yourself!”
