Kealan had put the crash behind him and the fact that he had to abandon the ship and his crew in order to save his own skin. Sometimes retreat was the only option, allowing one time to regroup and plan. The mechanical creatures had chased the Captain and a couple others into a narrow canyon, herding them along until the walls seemed to close in on them and the creatures could chase no further. There was no going back, though, as one of them was still blocking their exit, waiting.
A chasm stretched out before them, with a large tarp strung across it. Testing it, Kealan nodded at the others. "I think it'll hold our weight," he said. As the team made their way onto it, Kealan's right foot fell onto a colorful dot and remained stuck there. "What th'-" Looking over his shoulder, he was too late to stop the others, each of whom had a foot stuck on a colorful dot.
"New players," a yellow haired man said on the other side. "Fantastic!" His arm stretched out, a palm waving in front of Kealan. "Name's Armstrong," he said. "Or you can call me Stretch."
Taking the offered hand, Kealan noticed the lack of warmth in the rubbery skin. "Monroe."
The hand then moved to the other officers for further introductions and when that was done, the arm retracted. Hands on hips, Stretch smiled. "Okay, Monroe, left foot red!"
"What?"
"Your left foot," Stretch instructed. "Put it on a red dot."
"We don't have time for this."
"It's the only way to get across," Stretch said. "The winner gets to choose the new players."
"Really, our people are-"
"RED!!!" Stretch's expression squinched up with anger. "Or I send you all to the bottom of the ravine."
Kealan moved his foot to the red dot. "Now can we-"
"Landry, right foot yellow!" He scowled at Kealan. "The game cannot be stopped once started."
