Keith had followed everyone's gaze to the window, blinking at the bodies that floated in the gravitational eddies of caused by the station, the ship, and the other corpses as they danced morbidly through space. He was glad their orders involved remaining seated, because he wasn't sure if he could have moved, transfixed by the movement of the corpses.
His eyes widened in a different kind of horror as Arn jumped to his feet to protect S'rah, watching as best he could from the corner of his eyes, trying not to gawk. Just watching Arn get chastised by the Klingon was kind of terrifying, and he was sitting all the way over here, not with Kinin right in his face. Keith had never been more glad to be seated several cadets away, practically invisible.
Staring at a very important spot of nothing on the floor in front of his chair, Keith let his mind wander, recalling some of the RTF introductory materials he'd read earlier. Sitting around in a conference room wasn't exactly what he'd expected for their first assignment, and he wondered how long they would make them just sit here, already feeling his legs growing restless with the prolonged stillness.
The room seemed to heave a collective sigh of relief as the privacy screen when up, only disturbed by the knowledge that the corpses remained, even if they could no longer be seen. He wondered where they'd all come from. The Talon's adventures in the Gamma Quadrant had become legend; there presence and the strange event didn't seem like coincidence.
Keith could only hope that if he worked hard, he might one day be worthy of such a posting. So far, he was acing his first assignment, a paragon of sitting still and doing nothing. The only problem, was that his left calf was starting to get very itchy.
