"Why?"
The word escaped his lips amid the frantic happenings about the base. No one heard him, for no one was near enough to hear, nor cared enough to listen. Though it wasn't for their ears that he asked, it was for their sake. Out in the cold of space, amongst the stars and the wondrous expanse of the universe, was a horde of corpses that shielded those wonders behind a wall of despair.
For the longest moment, Caspian stared out the windows at the horrific sight. But his gaze finally broke from the plight of the dead and turned to the welfare of the living. He could see it in their eyes: fear; confusion; disgust. This was not a sight for the uninitiated, and yet it was displayed for the masses like an artwork of legend.
Why?
What could have caused such an event? There was no conceivable way these bodies came from the morgue of any ship nearby nor the station itself. There were simply too many. Was this the result of a phenomenon? Was this planned? Had some mind conceived of such a tactic and initiated it?
Why?
Caspian's heart broke for the raw pain of it all. It broke for the dead, whom had been stolen from their rest and put on display. It broke for the many that would see these bodies in their sleep, and wish the memory to go away despite it's lingering hold. It broke for the tortured mind that would utilize such a plan. Inconceivable pain.
Knowing that where he was would be of no use to anyone, especially himself, Caspian chose to find a purpose. He knew he was near a medical center. Perhaps he could be of some use to them. It was better than staring into the abyss only to watch it stare back.
Medical was pleasantly low on patients despite the crisis unfolding. It seemed the physical health of the people was not at risk. Their mental health would be another matter entirely. After observing the medics deference to the Romulan doctor, it became clear her standing amongst the staff.
"Ma'am," Caspian offered a nod of respect. He looked to Hesperus and John Doe as equally to Aurora. "Lt. Commander Caspian Stavish...soon-to-be Chief Counselor for the USS Talon. May I be of any assistance?"
