Physical Profile (height, weight, hair color, eye color, etc.): 5’11.5”, 176lbs, light brown, blue eyes, athletic build, a few freckles.
Personality: Micah is an observant, flirtatious, outgoing young man who deftly wields his charm to maintain a certain level of personal privacy. Well mannered with a wild side, competitive, athletic, and in possession of more energy than he can burn. He refuses to drink alcohol and even avoids synthehol. Not afraid to try something new even if it means looking a little foolish.
Background and History: Micah was the third child born in the Nivans clan, a position that gave him a different perspective on his family and of life than his older siblings. He knew his father (whom he only refers to as Preston) to be nothing but an alcoholic and relied more heavily on his sister’s raising than the care of their own mother (whom he avoids referring to at all.) If it weren’t for Luke and Eden’s inherent kindness and the companionship of his younger brother Elijah then he could have easily wound up a run of the mill bad boy. He was unhappy at home but found some modicum of happiness participating in school activities, the church choir, and bringing home creatures from the creek in his pockets.
As Micah grew older he became quietly frustrated with a lack of direction in his life, secretly jealous of the talents of his siblings and peers, wondering what value he had if he had any at all. He wanted to do something, but what?
The damages during the war and being fearful of losing his sister served as some inspiration, as it did many young people, and together he and Elijah promised to go to the Academy together. Outwardly he might cite the stereotypical reasons for joining Starfleet; to protect the Federation, to do his part, to be a part of something bigger than himself but deep down his reasoning was less altruistic. He wanted to get away from home, he didn’t want to be left behind again, and he wanted to get rid of the chip on his shoulder.
San Francisco and the Academy were unlike anything he’d ever experienced before; to Micah they provided a playground where he could shed his old skin (as well as the severity of his accent) and become someone new. He welcomed the discipline knowing that he could endure much more. The Academy challenged him in ways he’d never been challenged before and he’d discovered an appetite for success that he never knew existed. Soon he was a new man, he pushed himself harder than ever and rewarded himself equally for his work. Not to mention how many more beautiful girls were here compared to home.
His drive caught the attention of some of his academic mentors who thought that perhaps Commandant Stetson Griffon could mold him into something stronger.
Sample Roleplay
”You want more, Cadet Nivans!?”
The spit on his face almost felt good. The truth was, no, he didn’t want more but there was only one acceptable answer. “Sir, yes sir!”
With the blood rushing in his ears Micah couldn’t hear how many more sit ups the instructor wanted . The plan was to keep going until the screaming stopped. If it weren’t for the burning in his arms he might have thought they’d have fallen off by now.
Sweat pooled onto the ground below him as his body dipped up and down and up and down. He had that date with Angelina tonight. That would have to get cancelled on account of nearly dying from exertion. He did cite his sources correctly for his essay for his Early Starfleet History class right? Was trying to think of other things ever going to make the pain go away?
Micah strained and groaned, willing his weakening body to persevere but it was hard.
“Get up, Cadet,” the instructor instructed. No wonder they picked him for the job. Micah obeyed.
“How you feeling, son?” His coach for the day caught the slight eye roll and grinned, glad to find something to sink his teeth into. “You don’t like it when I call you ‘son’ very much do you.”
Was that a question or a fact? Micah answered just to be safe. “Sir, no sir.”
“Good. Go run a lap and get over it.”
“Sir, yes sir.” Anything to give his arms a break. Maybe he could pass out and get lucky with a cute nurse to make him feel better.
