"You do realize that I am Vulcan, do you not? We are not known for our...fluidity."
Grace stared at the woman. It was typical Vulcan sarcasm. Something Grace got used to from one of her instructors back at the Academy. The nurse simply took a deep breath, and tilted her head slightly. "Oh, I've noticed," she replied. She then proceeded to do her best to coach T'Rai.
"How am I supposed to do that, when there is no rhythm to its movements? I cannot anticipate randomness."
Grace stared at her, slightly puzzled. She could remember trying to explain things that she had taken for granted to some of the children on Vulcan when she had lived there. That was never an easy process. Where "because..." was a widely acceptable explanation on Earth and among humans... it was sorely misinterpreted and recognized by Vulcans.
"Experience is a better teacher than me," Grace finally said. "Some people can hear it in the waves. Some people can just... feel it." Grace swallowed. Just uttering the word 'feel'.... She took a deep breath and finally realized that T'Rai was steadying herself with her hands on Grace's shoulders. She slowly reached out and gripped either arm of the Vulcan gently. "And you're right. You can't anticiapte randomness. Just let your body react to it."
She thought of going into more detail, but valuable would that be? If you were going to fall, your body would react to prevent it or to protect yourself. The nurse's hand fell to her side and she watched as T'Rai made it to her seat. Grace paused a moment, taking notice that Hunter had taken a seat as well. Her eyes towards Robin and then to Kealan.
"Sounds like you've had some time on the water, Grace. Good advice."
The pilot's voice recaptured Grace's attention as she started to move towards her seat. "Thank you," she said in response to the compliment. "My parents were invited aboard boats by friends plenty of times back in Hong Kong." As she took a seat, she thought back to the experience. "I think he used to own one. He got rid of it when I was very young though. I... don't even remember being on it."
She could recall finding a photograph once long ago. Her father explained that it had been his, and that he had gotten rid of it when she was barely more than a toddler. There wasn't much more that he had ever said about that picture. Grace wasn't even sure that she'd seen it again since. She then thought about the times that she could actually recall being on boats. Her parents' work friends would invite her family. And more often than not, they did decline. Though, there were some occasions where a 'no' was simply out of the question. And she could recall getting the same lecture over and over each time. How to move about the deck... advising her not to linger along the railing... knowing where the life preservers were located. Safety was always a priority.
"How far out will we be traveling?"
Grace's attention returned to the present. She hadn't realized that she had begun to simply gaze out in no particular direction. She turned to face forward listening for the itinerary that Robin would eventually reveal.
