"When I arrived, there were no spikes. If she arrived during one, it is possible that she came with it."
"I agree... but we don't know what they are. If it's a new weapon..."
"The location of the humans corresponds to the location of the spikes."
Tegan looked back and forth between the two as they talked about her rather than to her. Normally, she’d be pissed off. Given the situation, she figured she could handle alittle rudeness. Apparently, from their perspective, humans had done far worse. Was she going to inherit the punishment of those sins?
However it happened—by her words, by Tahp’s, or by the pure evidence in the situation—Tegan saw Tek look at her; really look at her. She looked at him dead in the eye, hoping by some extra amount luck, she could win his trust. Or…at least his cooperation.
"It would be so much easier to just blame you humans... but I trust Tahp with my life. If she thinks there is more to this, then I'll support her. And I can't ignore the fact that you are completely clean, and have knowledge on the two of us in general."
“I—” Tegan started, hoping to get in a thank you, but Tek continued on. She looked to Tahp, and at least gave her a purely visual moment of gratitude, for what it was worth.
"It doesn't fit any kind of tactic, to just send a human blatantly into engineering, knowing full well that the ship is fully manned. Alright, we have an issue to deal with. Lieutenant, do you have any hypothesis?"
“If I may…?” Tegan gently spoke up. “I’m just curious: what is the date?” It was a shot in the dark, but maybe some weird time-travel was in play. At least she could eliminate some theories, if nothing else.
