"You may be on to something, Ensign."
A compliment from a superior officer was always welcome and this came close. Close enough that Hrax smiled like a fool, almost missing Yolanda's theory. His smile did a slow dissolve as he thought about the repercussions to a planet if such a task was done incorrectly.
"It would explain why the energy is so clean... the heavy concentration we're reading... and certainly display just how technologically savvy our esteemed hosts are."
The Federation could learn a lot from the 'esteemed hosts. Hrax imagined how other planets he had visited would have flourished differently had they had such technology.
"Might explain the filtering, too. Coming fresh out of space into a highly magnetized zone could do a number on equipment and the people who carry it."
"There have been studies that show frequent exposure to magnetic fields can cause memory loss in some species," Hrax agreed. "Maybe the opposite is true for those who have been without, when they are used to living with it."
"So, any sign of a port on this structure? Some place that all those goods come to and leave from?"
He was nodding at his own thoughts without consciously being aware of doing so, but the sudden change in conversation whiplashed him back into reality.
"It's all sheer. Which is impressive, too. Looks like there are some clear points of entry and exit, though. G'Sor'ka said it was just a customs port, though, sounded like. Probably mostly automated."
"If their automation is anything like the rest of this structure, it must be remarkable." Pressing his forehead against the transparent pane, he tried to see below. "These need to open," he groused, but knew it prevented any accidental drone beheadings. The feeling of the cold surface surprised him and he pulled back slightly and touched it with his fingers. While it was warm inside the observation deck, the window definitely transmitted some of the outside temperature, cold due to their elevation, through the pane. A design flaw, or intentional?
From the distance, a large ship dropped through the clouds and approached the building. "Here we go," he called the others over.
