“On me, cadet,”
Without another word, the young cadet was practically attached to the Chief as he led her to the warp core directly, stopping at the lower reaction chamber, where the intakes from the antimatter pods went into the warp core. It took a bit of time, but S'rah finally understood where they were going... the constrictors.
“Sir, plasma pressure’s oscillating between 1600 and 3600 PSI,”
“Just tell me if it hits to 5100,”
"Aren't supposed to eject the core if it hits 5000?" she said, though she didn't expect an answer. Instead, Cobus had a job for her.
“You throw the override switch. Close the intake valve. Then pull the mag lock. Rotate it ninety degrees. Release it. Then lift the override. Got it? There’s three more on this level and four up top."
S'rah nodded her head quickly. "Manual pressure reset to lock the constrictors, got it. You can count on me." she said, and without enough word dove down to get to work, letting Cobus handle the more... technical... aspects of the situation.
After doing a quick look at the first one the Chief did, S'rah pushed her way around to the opposite side. Like attaching a gear, you had to go for opposite sides and work your way around, otherwise the locks could be one-sided. They had enough problems right now without a cadet putting the constrictors out of balance.
The first part was easy, lifting the panel off and locking the override. It took a try or two before the override was accepted and the mag lock was released, though closing the intake valve was a piece of cake. What was difficult, however, was the mag lock itself. Of course the more experienced engineer made the physical movement seem easy, when it was far from. With difficulty, she slowly was able to make progress centimeter by centimeter, until it was about halfway through, when it suddenly released the rest of the way. S'rah struggled to keep on her feet, using the lock handle as a guide, and then breathed a sigh of relief when she was able to rotate the lock. Pushing it in was easier than pulling it out, and with a sign of relief she finally flipped the switch.
The next two were a bit easier, and as she saw Cobus with Reese, she started to ascend the ladder get the 4 on the matter side of the warp core.
