"That's making the assumption that I don't go home after this mess is done and over with. Look what's happening to this organization. It's a bloody nightmare and I'm not so sure it's one I want to be in the middle of."
Wait. Was she... primping? He adjusted his eyes and leaned across the desk, staring at the blonde as she used the mirror to adjust her hair and her makeup. How in the hell could that be important right now... she wasn't even finished yet. He could tell that she wanted to make a quippy comeback, and was fully expecting one, but for some reason only the truth came out. He was slightly disappointed as he leaned back in the seat and crossed both arms over his chest. "Well that's assuming that returning home is going to be an option in your lifetime. If this... bloody nightmare is as bad as it seems, it might not be something that's fixed so easily."
Yeah. That's exactly what she was doing. She stopped right in the middle of her re-alignments to realign her hair, and then went right back to what she was doing, presumably to mess up her hair exactly like it had been messed up before. He didn't know whether to be amused or horrified.
"Lot's of bachelors though so that's not so bad."
"Oh yeah? Bachelor's hmm? What about that cadet from down on the planet last month. He seemed to be quite interested in making sure you knew exactly how to handle the situation." Of course he didn't know much about Tek or his history, but the cadet had seemed to show some genuine interest in Contessa, or at least her well-being. He stood and walked over to a replication console and ordered a cold tea to drink, arms not uncrossing until the beverage had materialized and he could take it. He figured given the current state of the ship and the federation as a whole that rationing would probably start soon, might as well get the luxuries in while you could.
"This will need a little bit of delicate work. Why don't you make yourself busy with that so I can pop it back in and we can start getting some operations back for people."
It wasn't the being asked or even being told what to do that caught Tyler's attention, it was specifically the "why don't you make yourself busy..." part of it that caught his attention. Normally, Tyler would have taken objection to that, no matter who'd been telling him to do so, but in this more laid back setting, he couldn't pass up the opportunity for more razzing.
"So since it needs delicate work, you think the right answer is for the petite, clearly detail oriented cadet to hand the project off to the hulking, clearly bull-in-a-china closet dandy? Seems to make perfect sense..." He slid over to her after sitting the glass of tea down on a desk and took the damaged circuit board from her. "Hey... do you think I could borrow that little mirror of yours, you know... to make sure I get it juuuust right?"
