"I don't know where Lybbi is,"
Robin's brow furrowed in confusion as the name drop had come out of nowhere, fast like a familiar orange beam of light so rapid Robin scarcely saw it but felt the residual confused burn in his head straining to process what Liz had said.
Lybbi. He mentally racked his mind for the name, then her face and the connection to Liz. Her little sister, or rather half-sister. It was not a topic the two indulged in despite knowing the weight her name carried in Liz's hardened heart.
He had even met the young girl a few times whilst she had been on Talon. Sweet girl, but he didn't really know that, some children behaved exceptionally well in front of others outside family interactions and often succeeded in hiding their mischievous antics from the universe.
Robin recalled a cute time when she had asked him how does the ship fly, looking back he had a pretty good feeling that she already knew to some degree considering her older sister's job, if anything the girl might have just been seeking attention. At the time, Robin didn't pick up on it, a little too eager to make use of a starship model he had gifted to Liz that had been gathering proverbial dust over its packaging.
His lips turned briefly upwards into a small smile before reminding himself of the grim context Liz implied, urging him to trace the steps of the two from his point of view. Liz had been reassigned at some point taking Lybbi with her to DS9 and later Liz returned without her sister telling him she had moved on to a school prepping youngsters for Starfleet Academy. Something she still seemed be on track for considering Liz's affirmation and despite the institution's destruction, which is where Robin's frown turned solemn in recognising Liz's fears.
What did the current day Academy mean for those enlisted? Were there instructors favouring humans? Just how deep was this web of perverted ideals at the core their current teachings? What would that mean for Lybbi? He was brought out of those troubling thoughts soon enough by Liz's apology reminding him of his stillness and the fact that he hadn't uttered a word on the delicate unexpected subject.
"No, it's fine." Robin said gently, his narrowed gaze staring down, thoughtful until he lifted his head to look at Liz. "I think it could use some taking away." If he would ever willingly strap himself into one of those horrendous mind machines again, it would be to rip away those dark threads of thought and letting that brighter side shine without a dark cloud masking it.
Robin regarded his friend in silence for a moment longer before reaching out to wrap an arm around her shoulder, "She's fine." He offered not with a smile but determination lining his features.
"Most idiot bigots can only discriminate based on sight, she might as well be human to them." He said gently although to be fair that didn't stop humans being shitty to one another but Robin forced that fact aside to focus on the positive.
"And besides, I know she has some Liz-tricks up her sleeve. Those are pretty scary." Robin added with a faint grin, gently shaking his friend.
