Well it had been an epic disaster, it was meant to be a single freaking trip to a corridor to reset and over heated relay, there was always something on this ship that broke, always something on this ship that just decided to break, that decided it would irritate her. She wanted to work on something...interesting she stood there and watched the people working on the warp drive and the impulse engines, she wanted to get her hands something more interesting, she didn't know what she could do to have deserved such a lowly position, oh yeah she was twenty three and she was too shy to talk to anyone. She didn't know what the hell she was going to do, oh yeah just get on with her job she supposed the relays were important after all. Another hour another relay, she popped the cover off and looked at the screen, she reached forward before taking a deep breath and sighing, she hated this freaking job. She hated trying to fix these things, it didn't take any kinda real skill, anyone could pop it out a little tiny part pop the new one in and hit a button couldn't they? Hell the cook could do this she why he hell did she even have a rank with the titled Engineer she was a maintenance person! The truth of this trip was starting to sink in, she was home sick, she missed the hills, the river, real gravity hell she could feel the difference between artificial and real gravity but you could. They said you couldn't but you could, it was like trying to taste the difference between diet and full sugar coke. Of course there was a difference!
Swiftly she moved on to the next one, she didn't know how many of these things were going to come through but half the time she felt as if it was literally just 'oh lets give whatshername all the crappy jobs on this ship.' Half the time she doubted if these people knew her name, they certainly noticed the bright red hair but on her time here, on this ship, she had got quieter, she hadn't come out of her shell like she was meant to and slowly but surely she was starting to forget the fact that she even had a voice. Next job, next boring job, replacing another circuit only this time she didn't really read that job description right, she slipped in to the service duct, she hated these places as well, she say the crap end of the ship; ducts and dust bunnies. While she was busy fixing the circuit while being careful not to burn herself she did just that, it hurt, there was a loud yelp from her lip as she jumped slightly banging her arm off the side and she resisted the urge to punch something. She was frustrated, she never once made her frustrations known, never once had she said no to doing something, never once had she she moaned about something and here she was being ignored. Fantastic, it was a popularity contest, this place was just as screwed up as high school and the academy was, popularity contests were the way forward apparently and she wasn't going to win anything.
It wasn't until she was finished she noticed how bad it was, it was starting to sting and she settled with the fact that this was going to be another trip to sick bay, she sauntered in for the second time in as many weeks, fantastic last time she had gotten a nasty gash on her arm from climbing up things and this time it was a nasty burn. She really needed to get a better sense of ballence.
