Having arrived back on the ship, Brix was having a hard time just relaxing. Something was bothering him. Usually, when that happened, he found it best to throw himself into his work until the issue surfaced. So, even though his crew had already checked the Zephyr's engines upon arrival and reported an all clear, Brix went about seeing to the task again, by himself. It gave him something to do.
As he worked, he realized what it was that was eating at him. His assessment of what had occurred in Quarks and how quickly he had throw out his own Captain's name. Currently, sprawled under a console, Brix dropped his hands with a heavy heart. How could he have been so harsh to judge when he knew so little of what had happened, yet he had given the base commander his own personal assessment on the matter, rather than the true facts.
Pushing out from under the console, he realized now why Vaatrick had likely looked so angrily in his direction. Brix was devastated. He prided himself on his loyalty, yet he had flubbed the situation on the station and in so doing, shown that he was not the loyal soul he had always thought. What had happened to make him do that? His face pinched in a frown as he tried to reason. He couldn't.
It was eating Brix to know that his actions could be interpreted as disloyal or otherwise errant. He had to rectify this or he might not sleep well again.
Moving over to once console, he drafted and sent two messages. One to Vaatrick, explaining that he was sorry if he had offended his fellow engineer in some way. He hoped that he would not think less of him because of the incident.
The second message he sent to his captain, explaining what had occurred in sickbay, and how Brix had explained the situation, and asking to speak with the captain so as to apologize for his disloyalty towards him in anyway.
After both messages had been sent, Brix sat, staring into oblivion for a time, struggling to think that perhaps everything he had always thought about himself had only been an illusion. Had his interpretation of the situation been incorrect and thereby disloyal to his captain? Should he have handled things differently? He couldn't go back and find out now, so instead he threw himself back into his work.
