She was walking, furiously and without a purpose, trying to get away from something that was deep inside her. Persephone kept telling herself she was trying to get used to the floorplan of the ship, but really she was hopelessly lost and too stubborn to ask the computer for help. She didn’t want to be found, after all. She wanted to be left alone in her misery at her own shortcomings.
What had happened in the mess hall, what had happened in the sick bay…. The excitement at a new assignment was understandable, but this was entirely out of hand. Who did she think she was? She was an orphan child, risen to this position by sheer luck and the force of chance. She had no right to be here, no right to assert herself over others. A part of her wanted to go and resign right then, actually, but she had no idea what she would do after that. She had no where to go other than Starfleet, no family, no home… what would she do?
Persephone was trapped. There was no solution to this problem, in her mind, and the length of this assignment would reveal to her the true depths of her misery.
Crumbling to the ground on some random stretch of hallway, Persephone’s back slid against the wall until it came to a stop against the floor. She wrapped her arms around her knees and dropped her head against her arms. With any luck (which she clearly hadn’t been having today) no one would find her.
