"Who are we if not unique?"
"We are little more than carbon and chemicals, if we're not unique," Quin responded quickly. The lab was beginning to get a bit more busy, with a few lab assistants bustling around, taking a look at the information that was being brought in from the Away Teams. He saw some scraps of metal, and assumed that they were the parts from the aforementioned Copernicus' repairs.
"The conquerers become the conquered, a natural usurpation of thrones,"
He nodded empathically, "Yes, then the conquerers married their cousins and the resulting overly imbred offspring were barely fit to drool, let alone rule a landmass, etc, etc..." he said. "It's so ironic the things that they thought would work back then. Breeding within a family group to increase the stock? Fascinating."
It's fairer on those not endowed with ridiculously long life spans like myself. Just how I feel,"
"That's a smart way to see things. Besides, what's the rush? It's not like you're never going to make admiral if you're not Captain by 50," he responded with a grin. "I used to get wrapped up about rank, but then I realized the only thing I'd ever be fit to be Captain of was a science vessel, and I'm not all about that." **Unless it was a science vessel of hot alien women,** he ammended mentally.
"I'm happy with where I am. I enjoy what I'm doing. Not much need to change just yet,"
"That's really all anyone can ever hope for. So many people waste their whole lives in the wrong careers, married to the wrong people, doing the wrong things... and they never really find anything that truly makes them happy. Really, happiness is the most important thing in the Universe," He said, waxing philosophical for a moment. "And honestly, if you're going to be living centuries, doing so happily is incredibly important."
"Anything earth shattering I need to know about,"
He handed over the padd with the information regarding the mammal that he'd bought aboard. "I found out some information about your lady friend that's more geared towards your specialty than mine," he responded with a wry grin.
