Fixing broken thermostats wasn't a job that anyone would find thrilling, but Georgia was more than happy to be doing it in preference to trading barbed words with Emmarie. A part of her was relishing in catty thoughts about how the woman had made it to full Lieutenant, and the other half was scolding herself mentally for such stereotyping.
They're all right about you, Georgia Button. You're a schizophrenic loon, you know.
Trying to ignore the internal voice of criticism, she entered the hydroponics bay. Two of the thermostats had been reporting minor inconsistencies, which meant that she was going to have to check the lot to see if she could figure out the root cause of the problem; it was unlikely caused by the hardware itself in this instance.
Still, boring though it may have been it was the sort of work that Georgia excelled at, and she didn't mind the time to think.
This is why you're still a JG, she mused to herself. Screw Hunter's suggestion about an inability to make decisions: no-one wanted a JG to make a decision anyway.
She sighed as she pulled the first thermostat from its housing in the first bay. Maybe this was the opportunity she'd been looking for, the push she needed to make a decision about her brother's offer. At the moment she was failing to see how it could be anything but a good thing, but she wondered if that was just her reluctance to want to think about her failing relationship, compensating for a sound assessment of the pros and cons of the situation.
Well, she'd got twenty six thermostats to check, so that was plenty of time to think it over.
