"Talon is an exciting ship," ... "It's hard to beat it." the Lieutenant told her.
He seemed rather proud of that, though as the Chief of Flight Operations she assumed he would be. It had been her experience that pilots often treated the ships they flew with awe and admiration. There was nothing more exciting than getting "behind the wheel" of the latest star ship, and for them the faster the better. She admired that about the Lieutenant that he enjoyed his job as much as he did. People didn't always like their jobs. It also reminded her of her father, who was also a pilot, and all the times he talked of ships, taught her how to pilot small ships and shuttles, check the plasma in the warp core, and would often fly their family to distant planets when she was still considered very young.
"It's been an exciting stay," the Ensign told her, who still seemed rather reserved around them both.
It would be interesting to note whether or not she held the same admiration as other pilots. Keira was sure Mandy wouldn't be a helmsman on any Starfleet vessel if she wasn't a capable pilot but just because you were good at your job didn't necessarily mean it was what you wanted to do with your life. It was still too early to tell how she felt about it, she kept her thoughts mostly to herself, and it was a shame she seemed so reserved and hidden within herself for such a beautiful and potentially capable young woman.
"The real question is whether we can tell you or not." the Lieutenant said to her when she inquired about their next destination. She smiled back innocently return.
It was certainly his right not to want to tell her anything about their next mission, though she didn't so much as want details about the mission as she did their destination. She had been doing a bit of stellar cartography herself within the privacy of her quarters, as a side project, to cover their trips around the Gamma Quadrant and using those in conjunction with any leads she had on the remainder of her people to track where they might have gone if in fact some did migrate to the Gamma Quadrant. She was no more a spy or likely to sabotage their missions anymore than the Captain was himself, but she'd be lying if she said she didn't have her own agendas.
"Breas, we're responding to a planet-wide crisis." he admitted.
She'll have to mark that on her map, but the words "planet-wide crisis" gave her cause for concern. She empathized with any planet or people who suffered a planetary scale crisis. She hoped that the Federation could do something to help them. She turned and looked out lounge window while she remembered what few memories she had of her own planet and all of her family. She wouldn't give up hope, but she did often wish things could have been different. If she could go back and change things, would she? Her people would have thought it unwise to even consider altering time and space in any way, but what would they have said or done had they known what was to come? She shook her head, erasing such thoughts from her mind and turned back to the two crewman.
"I have faith the Federation can do something to help with whatever problems they face." she said honestly.
