Mandy was not in the habit of being out in public unless she was on duty. There was plenty of that, definitely--she'd piloted the ship when the Captain had been on the bridge, even, which was either nerve-wracking or pretty amazing, depending on how well the shift went and whether or not one managed to get the ship bucked out of the starstream--which, thankfully, hadn't happened the last time she'd been on the bridge. That would have sucked.
But other than that (which hardly counted as being in public at all, since it was work), Mandy generally liked being all on her lonesome in her quarters. Unfortunately, she'd recently acquired a new roommate, and said roommate wasn't quite known to Mandy yet, and...well, she wasn't Reesa, and didn't know Mandy, and...it was just weird, that was all. Mandy would get over it, and a few breakfast/dinners had helped, but it still was...just weird.
In any case, Mandy was pretty sure Grace was on duty. All the same, a letter had just come from one of her professors from the Academy, which had declared in no uncertain terms that said professor would quite appreciate it if Mandy would make an effort to talk to people. Which, out of necessity, meant that Mandy had to go where people were. Having already eaten dinner, Mandy had uploaded a new book onto a PADD and had headed to the crew lounge, deciding that there was a corner chair with her name written all over it.
So, fifteen minutes later, that was exactly where she was; her shoes had been kicked off, resting against the bottom of the chair, her feet tucked up underneath her, hair falling around her face as she read in a distracted state of complete obliviousness to the world around her. Not that she at all minded that state; at least it kept the dancing from breaking out, and the book was quite good, after all. It was a newer publication, some historical adventure, the details of which were a bit fuzzy all things considered. But it kept her from thinking about starstream problems, and that was all that mattered.
