"There's so much for us to deal with.
Luis nodded at that statement. Just what they would actually have to deal with had not presented itself to them just yet and he had a sinking feeling that that something was going to be difficult but, hopefully, solvable. They were truly standing on the edge of history, especially for the Breas. The reality of the situation was if they could not help with the offspring the Breas could be looking at possible extinction.
It's true we have to stabilize the environment so that the eggs can develop, but for the offspring that have recently hatched, those birth defects need to be addressed as well."
Luis rubbed his forehead feeling the intensity of the looming task ahead of them. He was also dealing with a private tragedy that he had hoped he'd never have to deal with, at least not thousands of miles away from his home planet where he could not comfort his family.
"This may not be easy, but it's a long way from over. We'll figure this out. We have to... right?"
"Yes," he answered her as he sighed and looked away, "we will. We will figure it out. We have to. Well, I for one am very glad it's quiet today," he changed the subject remembering their harrowing experience when they had entered the void months ago. He and the entire medical crew had worked nonstop for two days dealing with the injuries.
"Grace, would you care to share a cup of coffee with me?" he asked her. Coffee had become his elixir of life. That or hot tea. "I really think I could use the pick-me-up."
