"And I think we're going to work together very well. All I really ask of a person is that they do their best, be as honest as they can be and respect others. My folks taught me to treat others they way I would want to be treated,"
"Then you have good folks, Mac," Carlos replied with an inclination of his rugged head and a smile. He certainly did genuinely hope all the best for Mac's future, and given the enterprise that the man had placed on his own shoulders given how many times the ownership had changed hands, Carlos would do all he could to help the young newly wed.
"My mother once said, 'You can lie to all others but you cannot lie to yourself', took me a while to work it out but honest and just is what I try for. I have found that living by a set of rules does wonders for your boundaries," he said before sipping his beer.
He hadn't been sure how deep into his past or about himself Mac had wanted to know or gauge from. Perhaps that was the old security scepticism in him but he hadn't exactly wanted to bring up an event which he was just starting to move on from. Moving on and being able to talk about it weren't quite the same thing. So he was glad when Mac didn't push him for anything.
"That way I at least will know who's working for me and who's not and we'll start there.
"Good plan, always good to knows those of whom you're paying the wages of," he said, fully respecting that initiative. Knowing who worked for you personally by name and rapport was important, especially in Hartmann's professional background. You needed to know and trust that the person who was on your six could actually protect and look out for you. A no man could see from every angle alone so trust and eyes were a big asset to anything critical situation. It was no different here.
"I have a few names to mind, I'll collate and send you the profiles. Definitely would like to keep Jimmy on though. Like I said, he needs confidence boosting and a little more training but he enjoys the work. He's always asking me to help him get better but with so few staff, it's difficult to get the time in," he replied, nodding. Being an ex-MACO gave him a distinct advantage of knowing where the weaknesses were, what could be made stronger and most importantly could give the training of how to effectively dissolve a situation nearly before it even broke out.
"I got a few training programs we could use for training and the firing range will provide ample help too, but yes, we need more people involved," it was nice to be involved on the grander level than before and it was also nice that Mac at least seemed more hands on and willing to get a rapport going.
