Making his way carefully around the commander, Diran leaned in for a closer look at the offending item. He also stole a glance toward the scans Rok had made on his tricorder. The fact that the transmitter like object didn't register at all on an ordinary scan was more than enough cause for concern. What if it wasn't a transmitter but a detonator of some kind? Whoever had planted this had known what they were doing, as evidenced by the fact that they had somehow programmed it to evade tricorders. Perhaps the bases sensors could detect it, but then wouldn't they have already? Nothing was absolutely foolproof, so there had to be a way. They knew the object was there, but what was it and what was it capable of? There would be no taking any chances, so he would need to work quickly if he were to do his job effectively.
"Sir, we should clear the immediate area and do we have a forcefield we can erect around the object?" Perhaps this would be considered an over reaction of sorts, but worst case scenario they had a detonator or bomb to diffuse. Always work from the worst case scenario, he had been taught, and no matter how extreme it might seem to most, he planned to stick by it. One day, it could save someones life, if not his own. Waving at a camera of sorts, only to be blown to smithereens by it would not be a good way to end his career.
He then tapped his combadge in order to contact the captain as instructed, although really he didn't need telling that the captain should be informed of their discovery. He was suprised that Cobus himself hadn't made the call, but orders were orders. The others in the team would need to be made aware to, but the commander could surely deal with that. Discreetly too, he hoped, as the last thing they needed was a panic!
"Diran to Talon, we've found a small device in the cargo hold that appears to be a transmitter of sorts. Scans aren't detecting it's presence, but we're attempting to contain the immediate area. Please advise." He had a few ideas of his own as to how he should proceed, but most involved disrupting the mission at hand. Better than disrupting lives, he thought, but that wasn't his call. At least Adam was free though, and hopefully continuing his work elsewhere and out of harms way. Seriously, there was nothing wrong with sticking to ones duties, but he thought that perhaps his fellow ensign had taken it a little too literally.
