"It sounds like it's been affecting your nervous system."
She knew basically nothing about anatomy and physiology, but she did know that the nervous system was important. For a moment, she wished she had focused her studies on the Talon more to the medical side, than to learning all about the various aliens they had encountered in Starfleet's history. Still, there were doctors such as Greg who could take care of that lack of knowledge. Her studies had enabled her to better interact and deal with the Ferengi when they first arrived on Etimon.
"I admit, I'm not sure how long your season of joy lasts. But we have a daughter now."
She smiled with happiness for the pair. "Then your season of joy served its proper purpose," she said. She repeated the name 'Bethany' to help her remember it better, though lately her memory was not what it should have been. "I would love to meet her." Normally, she would have jumped from the chair and rejoiced with them, but she remained seated as Greg went about his business.
"You'd be most welcome to. How often do you think you would be able to visit us?"
"I do not know when I can get back. Esohn-" Her reply to Liandra would wait and she tilted her head slightly when Greg reached the hypospray to her neck.
"This, will neutralise the poison currently in your body."
"Thank you." As the hiss sounded, she shivered. The sound made it all the more real. She had been poisoned. Someone on Etimon wished her dead, just like her children.
"You should feel the effects in a few minutes. This, is a patch you can wear which should continue to counter the effects of any similar substances you ingest in the next week. It'll release slowly. Do you want me to put it on for you?"
"Please." Regardless of where it would go, she trusted him. There were very few individuals she trusted lately, and it seemed to always come back to those she had met after her adventures on the Talon. For not the first time, she wondered how her life would have gone had the Mehtak not brought about terror to her planet, captured her, and the Talon saved her, resulting in the construction of the starbase. Would she now have babies of her own and be living happily in the palace with her father doting over the children as a grandfather should, or would events have continued regardless and Esohn seizing power anyway?
"Esohn does not wish me to come to the station to work," she said to Lia. "But he can hardly refuse to let me see your child." A knowing look crossed her face as her eyes met those of the Captain's. "Especially if I tell him it helps with my grief." No one else's child would ever fill the void that Ahska felt, but Esohn didn't have to know that.
As Greg applied the patch to her, she asked him the most important question. "How can I avoid this happening again?"
