Desan didn’t even wait for the Nike to finish her docking procedure before he sent a message requesting permission to board, and to speak with the Admiral. The long moments it took for the vessel to respond seemed interminable to Desan, and he paced impatiently while he awaited word. He had a collection of padds in his hand, data from various situations that he was in the process of tracking.
Just the data from the Talon’s encounter with the Bacohl was enough to keep a team of Intelligence officers busy for months, and that didn’t count all of the other ships in the task force. Desan was glad to have an officer on the Talon, who could indicate which data would be most relevant to his interests.
He had extra nervous energy to burn, so instead of transporting to the Nike, he took the walking route. This also allowed him to see the Nike’s crew members gleefully exiting their vessel to get some shopping and exploring done while they were in the area. Some eyed him curiously, wondering why anyone would be fighting to get on the Nike when they were at dock, but after seeing the pips on his collar, no one made an effort to stop him.
He made his way easily to the Admiral’s office, smiling at some of the more attractive female crew members that he passed. Admiral Rell’s Yeoman, Mack Rand, opened the door to the office at precisely the moment he was about to ring the bell.
I’ve got to give the man a hand. He’s certainly very good at what he does. Desan smiled in greeting, “Mack, it’s been too long since I’ve seen you. What has it been, three months now? Maybe four? Ever since we built this station it seems like I’m always busy, and the Nike’s always off saving the day.”
“It’s good to be busy,” Rand responded. “Admiral Rell, Commander Kayden is here to see you,” he announced.
