Hudson had finished cataloging the nanites with the crewman. His attentions were flattering, but she knew it wasn't to be. She had intended on going to their quarters, but something made her detour to the Nest. For some reason, she wanted to be near security officers, and she knew the frequented the Nest.
"Hudson!"
She smiled at the men in yellow and nodded to the one from which the greeting had originated.
"Heard you had an adventure." He patted one of the empty seats nearby.
"If you call getting stunned, quarantined, decontaminated, and then stuck in a room tediously cataloging things you can't even see an adventure, you guys need your heads examined."
There was a collective laugh as she sat down. "But at least you had Cliff there, right?"
She paused. "Um..."
"Maybe you didn't put him as your emergency contact."
"I did," she nodded. "When I got back from SGE."
"Maybe the medics were busy? I'm sure that's it."
She took a synthehol one of them handed her and sipped it, deep in thought. "Maybe," she said.
"Regardless, tell us about the nanites!"
Shuddering, she glared at him. "I think I'm going to have nightmares for weeks, thank you very much."
"Was that the first time you've been stunned?"
She shook her head. "No, but not knowing what happened in the time after is what freaks me out."
The others kept quiet, their own minds going to dark places, the hazard of their occupation propelling them there. "Maybe you should see someone," the redheaded security officer with the freckles offered.
"Maybe," Hudson said again. "I don't know. Maybe coming back to the ship was a mistake."
