"I believe that Jed is simply agreeing with you to an extent."
"Sounded more like, "don't let the door hit you on the way out"," Tazer said, his eyes still on Jed.
"It's just an expression. He's simply saying that you're being alert and waiting for the Pelebians' secret to come to light."
He still didn't know how a catch hitting him in the head was the same thing. Maybe this Jed guy was one of those who delighted in speaking in riddles that no sane person could ever hope to decypher.
"Of course, there's still the possibility that these people are genuine. Not everyone is in the business of subterfuge and clandestine intelligence. Trickery."
"Right," Tazer rolled his eyes. "When was the last time you lied?" He poked a finger into Grace's shoulder for emphasis. "Everyone's guilty."
"Pretty much, if it sounds too good to be true, it usually isn't, right?"
"That's the most sane thing you've said since I arrived," he agreed.
The Pelebian who had just brought Georgia another drink stopped and stared, wide-eyed, at Jed. "We are as you see us," he said in protest, before turning on his heel and disappearing into the establishment.
"Touchy," Tazer grunted.
"Come one, man. Sit, join us and have a laugh. If something bad does happen, then you laugh yourself silly and say 'I told you so'. Till then, enjoy life."
"What the hell," Tazer said. He grabbed the chair and shoved it next to Grace before plopping into it. "Waiter!"
A different Pelebian appeared than the one before. This one seemed awfully nervous.
"Give me something strong. Something that will knock me on my butt and not make me care where I am."
The waiter tilted his head slightly. "You do not enjoy Peleb?" His fingers fiddled nervously with his abdomen. "What do you desire? We can make it happen."
Looking up at the colorful man, Tazer scowled. "Can you bring back the dead, bub?"
"I don't underst-"
"Just bring me a drink, okay?"
The waiter nodded and scurried away. It would be a while before his drink appeared.
