"It's over here," the officer on duty said to Kinin.
Kinin looked down at her PADD and frowned, then pointed to a cargo unit close to where she was standing. "I believe you are mistaken," she said.
He shook his head and looked around as if expecting someone to jump out at him and take him away. "Actually..." His hand went to the back of his neck in a nervous motion.
"Step aside," Kinin growled at him. Maybe he had been ordered not to let her near Dorian's unit. She pulled out the container and tried to open it, but the codes were not working.
"Let me," the man said. Before she could protest, he opened it for her. Throwing back the lid, he gestured inside.
"What is all this?" Kinin pawed through the contents rapidly, throwing things aside.
"You might want to be gentle with-"
She stood rapidly and pushed him against a row of containers. "This is not Dorian's!" In her free hand, the one not clutching his shirt, she waved a trophy for bowling, though she was tempted to conk him over the head with it.
"I know. I tried to tell you. It's-"
Her eyes narrowed.
"Mine."
"Why is your storage unit mislabeled as the Captain's?"
He wasn't about to correct her as to who was in charge now that her husband had disappeared. "The inspectors came. They wanted to search your-" He swallowed, then continued. "Your unit, and his." Not to mention the ones belonging to Sur'Shess and several others.
"What?"
"While they were looking through yours, I..." Again, he looked around. "I edited the numbers." He could feel her hand relax on his chest and he slid to the side before walking away. "Alexander's is over here."
"Why do this?"
He stopped and turned around to face her again, his expression deadly serious. "I knew you'd come. Eventually. But I knew you'd do it. Alexander trusted you, so I trusted that you would know what to do with anything you found there." He looked down at his feet. "It shouldn't be up to the big brass. What if they saw something and took it out of context? Alexander deserves better."
He was a curious man and Kinin tilted her head slightly. "Were you two close?"
"No," he said. "But he was our Captain."
"Yes," she replied. It was all she could say without betraying the emotion.
"This way," he said. Shortly thereafter, he had made himself scarce as she opened Dorian's storage unit. Her fingers ran across the top items, as if she could learn more about her missing mate through the tactile sensations. Robin had said he would arrive soon, so she waited, not wanting to delve further until he was there.
