//"I can."//
Alyssa noticed that she breathed somewhat easier when her superior responded both calmly and fairly. It meant he either didn't notice her intention, which, as a seasoned investigator, was unlikely, or he accepted it. It was affirming for her, but that was a thought to consider another day.
//"I needed her help regarding insights into Dakbar's personality, actions, etc., as part of the investigation into his activities activities, as they'd had a personal relationship. After speaking with her, she had a confrontation with Dakbar then left. The transcript is available if needed."Stetson continued. "What has your investigation turned up so far? I'm still waiting for Medical's report."//
So Dakbar and Rychel did have a relationship, and they apparently had a confrontation directly before she came back to her quarters, consumed a large amount of alcohol, and began bleeding out profusely. Which meant that either someone had performed a spectacularly disguised and well-timed assault, or she truly attempted suicide. Alyssa gravitated far more towards the latter. It made sense. She was undoubtedly distressed by both the professional and personal betrayal of her lover. Throw in the intoxication factor, and Alyssa would probably be ripe for such drastic action.
Not that she would ever admit that.
In response, she began with answering the last question. It was the simplest to answer. "Ensign Cunningham just finished the forensics and is reporting back to Sickbay to finalize and file her report. It should be available shortly."
Alyssa turned towards the room to take in the visual as she reported. "As for the investigation, the scene seems to point towards the same conclusion. There are large blood stains in the carpet, an empty bottle of..." Alyssa looked more closely to give the exact name of the Bajoran wine, but she realized she'd never pronounce it correctly. "...Bajoran wine, and a another smashed wine bottle on her table--a shard of which seems to be covered in Lt. Kayden's blood."
"Witnesses report that Kayden fell into the corridor, where a man who has been identified as..." or appeared as, she silently added. "...a 'Mr. Darby' picked her up, and vanished. He also wrote two letters in her blood upon her door frame: 'K.L.' Apparently, he then delivered her to SGE, who reports that they have her in their care. We cannot confirm his identity, but we believe that he was Q." Alyssa wasn't certain whether Stetson was informed about this Q incident, or about Kayden's current location, but it seemed appropriate to be certain he knew the most significant aspects of the situation.
She let her words process in his mind before continuing to the logical conclusion. "Considering what you have told me about her interactions just prior to the incident, and the state of her quarter's, I believe Lt. Kayden attempted suicide. We are still looking for any indications of foul play, but, so far, there are none."
Alyssa looked towards Zak to see if he had anything more to contribute. He had, after all, been a part of the investigation since even before she had been. Trust your team., she remembered from her training. Never assume complete self-reliance. That's when mistakes get made.
