“After today I’ll need a good relaxing soak.”
"Then, you should come." She nodded her head once, making her statement final. "Do not bring that other man." Her hand waved in the direction the nightclub owner had gone.
“I would not count Giacomo as a friend. The downside of being an entertainer is that I often have to work for employers whom I do not always find agreeable. Every career has it’s downsides, though, so I try not to worry about it much.”
"Yes," she agreed. She could go on and on about some of the disagreeable individuals she had to deal with as Hezak, but knew it would not be appropriate to tell such things to a complete stranger. Though, as he smiled at her once again, she could see him being something more than that. They continued on their way and she glanced at him on occasion, watching his profile. He had a strong face. They stopped at the core and she studied the map, especially the area his finger indicated.
As the doors opened and he held it for her, she paused, panicking more than a little. Thus far, she had avoided the travel core by using the transporters, a perk of her status. Whether he sensed her hesitation, or it was just a coincidence, he distracted her by asking about her children. Reluctantly, she passed through the doors. There were three levels in the transport, but she didn't wander far.
“You said your children were only a few days old? How has adjusting to being a mom been?"
"I haven't had the chance," she said. "A Hezak's duty is to Etimon. And..." She paused as the doors shut once he was clear of them. "Historically, the Hezak places the aumo into the Ohrna and that is the last contact she has with them until it is their season of learning. My grandmother changed all of that, but it is hard to get Etimon to understand. Old ways are difficult to change." Not only was she fighting with the older class about how to raise her children, but also what to do with the 'abnormal' Etimonians who still lived on the fringes of society.
She squeaked suddenly and grabbed onto him as the transport lights flickered. "This cannot fall, can it," she asked.
