"My first duty is the welfare, well being and protection of my patients. Here in sickbay I am boss."
"I would imagine Commander Ericson would disagree," Kinin parried back at him. She watched everything he did as he cleaned out the wound and assured her that patient privacy was important to him. His work with the regenerator kept her quiet. She always liked this part, watching order from chaos, seeing how the wound became nothing more than a memory. Many in Starfleet held such silent mementos, with no physical scars to show for their valor.
"I remember you giving birth to one of your warriors. A fine, strapping young fellow. I was proud to be able to be a part of his first moments."
She swallowed and sat straighter. Though Luis and Diran had been valuable assets during the birth, she would have given anything to have had them replaced by two others. Before she could let the thought overwhelm her, she changed the the subject and pushed the focus onto Luis, asking about the gossip she had heard recently. His laughter surprised her. From her experience, humans usually handled being dumped by excessive crying.
"Yeah, I did. Bad news gets around fast."
"Nothing gets past the lab techs," she admitted. "A good security officer keeps her ear on the gossip, as it could be valuable information for the future."
"I guess I'm destined to be a single man, it looks like. Say, you don't happened to know any single Klingon ladies who, let's say, might be interested in learning a little Spanish, do you?"
Grace entered through the privacy shield and handed Luis some supplies before moving away and out of sight. Kinin raised an eyebrow at Luis. "Are you hitting on the patient, Doctor?"
