"Really? I mean...Wow, really?! That's so cool! I guess pilots do live on the crazy side of life. Can't get much more exciting than that."
She couldn't help the grin that sprang to her lips at his teasing, and she reached out to give him a friendly jab on the shoulder, fist pressing against his uniform for barely a moment. "I can hardly help it," she said lightly. It was different, this feeling of having someone who cared to tease her, or almost so. She'd not been teased in ages, since she'd left... she'd promised herself not to bring that up again, because it just sort of made it harder to be on the Talon. So she enjoyed it at the moment and gave her attention to the conversation.
"I uh, fell into a box. Hit my head, knocked out, woke up here."
There was a moment of silence in which Mandy's smile only grew. "I see," she said, raising her eyebrows. "Is it some kind of Ensign thing, do you think, taking undignified tumbles and nearly killing ourselves?" He couldn't answer, though; Doctor Diego came up, dismissing Bruce, and Mandy pushed herself a bit farther onto the biobed. Apparently she wasn't going to be released anytime soon, even though it seemed she wasn't any more hurt than Bruce was, or had been. In fact, she would have quite liked to find out what was happening on the ship, and they'd probably be waiting for her on the battle bridge still....
"Is being compelled to you how cute that smile of yours count as a medical problem?"
She blinked, abruptly recalled from the realm of thought by...whatever it was. A compliment? A pickup line? Either way, she felt a blush spreading across her cheeks--again--and she cleared her throat, trying to find words to deflect it, to make light of it, to distract from herself. Fortunately, she didn't have to. No sooner had he said it than he got distracted, eyes wandering, and excused himself.
She was left, mouth hanging open just a little, to turn her head and chart his progress... Oh. He was clearly making a beeline for Lieutenant Alexander, and Mandy was plugged just enough into the chain of gossip on this ship to know that there was something going on there, something probably...she felt a blush again, and turned away, wondering why she was such a fool.
Finally, blessedly, a medic came up, scanned her one last time, and gave her liberty to leave. Hopping down from the tricorder, she headed straight for the door. Somewhere along the way, most everyone had left, though she still caught a glimpse of Bruce from the corner of her eye. Not that she cared. She had a job to do.
End Mandy
