The gardens wasn't usually the first place he had expected to find himself before he had left the station to help those on the planet. It never seemed to have much to warrant his attention and he had considered it no more interesting that some intergalactic snail that had somehow learned the capacity for speech and a way of life. It was slow and nothing seemed to happen. However, his time on the planet had given him some scope and perhaps reminded him of that old adage, 'If you want peace, prepare for war', and war was something that Carlos was most certainly interested in.
Perhaps watching an old war film on his padd with a headphone whilst sitting on a bench in a quiet spot wasn't quite what the author of those words had in mind. However, the gardens weren't bathed in total silence, there was the waterfalls and fountains and ultimately proved a better spot than the complete and total void of his quarters.
Every now and again, he'd gaze absently in some direction and spot a vibrant flower vying for attention in the bed, as if fighting its own little battle for every possibly ray of sunlight it could. His time on the planet had made him realise that flowers, no matter how peaceful they looked, fought a competitive war, striving for resources and the attention of insect or other life that in turn were dependent on them.
He smiled and sighed softly before returning to the film. It was old and something he and his mother used to watch together. Today was special. It was her birthday and he usually did treat her with a meal and an old war movie stint, but he was out here and so felt like at least doing it in memory. He was sure she would be doing the same, it was just that routine when he was young. The film was old, black and white and based on true events, The Dam Busters. He wondered what the soldiers of earth from those times, Allied or Axis, would think of the modern warfare in space. His mind raced on the what ifs and the correlation of differences and similarities between the times. It was an interesting line of thought for him, so much so, his gaze went absent even as he continued to stare at the padd.
