"She seemed...lost. Not just the kind that comes with the death of a Captain... it was more. Deep and biting."
It seemed to be quite an interesting and detailed description from the scientist. B'ranon had to admit, he was slightly intrigued by Hunter's assessment of the nurse's emotional state, especially if it had seemed so obvious. Of course, he had to give Hunter some credit. The man was not only a biology expert, but one on culture as well. So, his assessment held a bit of weight in B'ranon's opinion.
"I've seen it here, and in Emmarie's eyes...and the eyes of too many on this ship. I wanted the cycle to stop...at least with her. I don't know if doing that even helped her, hell it may have frustrated her further."
"Still you intentions were for the former," said B'ranon. He didn't want Hunter to second guess himself, especially if he was making an attempt to evolve beyond his former self. The desire to improve oneself was an admirable one. Yet, more than that... it was a universal constant and a necessity of a being's survival.
"I don't know if it's in my file, but I was engaged for a time to one of the crew, Georgia Button. I thought it was what I needed at the time..."
B'ranon made no comment to the mention of Hunter's former engagement. He thought it interesting that the man would mention it, but he understood it as a means for him to track his own growth and progression. It was the presentation of evidence to validate his argument. Though, who was Hunter trying to prove this to: B'ranon or himself?
"I've tried religion, I've tried chastity..." He laughed sarcastically. "The latter of which didn't last long. I've tried monogamy. I've tried-- too many things. I just... want to be a better person."
"And who says you're not?" The counselor had posed the question and said nothing to follow it up as he gave Hunter the chance to reflect on his words. Very few people's moral compass pointed directly true north. There always seemed to be a bit of grey area. However, even in the grand scheme of things, B'ranon thought it fair that Hunter at least realize that his own personality, given a few behaviors, was barely that of a true sinner. "They say we're are own worst critic." B'ranon shrugged. "Perhaps you shouldn't be so hard on yourself. You may realize you've come further than you think."
