She had not known he was gone until it was over and she had to admit that it was probably for the best. What more needed to be said anyway? Plus, it was highly doubtful he would have even been in any sort of condition to remember her words. Regardless, she had little time to fret about the fate of Robin Star, as the time that followed threw her into total Klingon culture immersion, and it proved how far away from her heritage she had really fallen.
No one would fault her, however, for the emotion she had shown on Qo'noS, and only the heart of a Klingon could have endured what she had gone through since leaving the Talon. Meeting her family, a concept so foreign to her that it still seemed like a dream, had been nervously joyous, but then the universe in its own wisdom decided too much happiness was not part of the plan and it sent her into a dramatic spiral downward. M'Khol was there to comfort her and give his unique form of wisdom based on his own experiences, especially after he gently and reluctantly gave her the news about Dorian and his House. Upon her absence from Talon, the house of Krug had demanded Sean, and he was already on his way. Talon had no choice, really, as she was now considered a traitor to the ship, and sending Sean would go a long way in easing hostilities.
She kept telling herself that such was the life she had chosen, and now her son could truly be raised according to his heritage. It was hard, though, thinking of his future without her, especially after M'Khol had informed her that Dorian had chosen a new mate. Would Sean call her his mother? Would he even know the truth?
"Karja, focus."
She nodded at the man who sat next to her who was guiding her through the intricacies that were part of the new vessel's computer system. The smaller ship was easy, but M'Khol's personal ship was more powerful and had a tremendous amount of upgrades she still had to learn. Between the lessons, her duties, and M'Khol's nightly visits, she had little time to dwell on the past. The ship's Captain had become a constant fixture in her life and she would be wrong to say she hadn't enjoyed it. However, it felt as if she were constantly waiting for something, something that had not yet happened, and it was extremely frustrating.
The ship had no set itinerary that she could discern and it appeared as if they were moving randomly here and there with no focus. She was no fool, and knew that eventually it would be revealed. From what she could tell thus far in her journey with the man, M'Khol kept his agenda hidden until his crew needed to be in the know.
Did she have red hair? Kinin took in a breath, pushing the thought of Dorian's new mate aside. Focus. Instead, she thought of her own family and it gave her a small amount of satisfacton to realize that they were even more powerful than the House of Krug. She didn't need his anymore to give her honor. A slight smile played on her lips as her fingers trailed across the console, sliding the settings to where she thought they should be.
"Good."
The Klingon to her left said very little and she knew he was probably not happy having her there or teaching her to do what she should already know. She had overheard him earlier and the word he called her caused her to rage internally ever since. There was no way she could convince them otherwise, at least until they went into battle. Then, they would know her heart was stronger than the loins he claimed had clouded M'Khol's mind.
