Eden returned Tegan's smile with her own typical warmth. As much as the blonde loved to chat she knew now was not the time to push the engineer into finishing what she had to say- if they hadn't been threatened with annihilation then the two might have been able to talk for hours.
Tegan finally managed to stick the bomb with the paralytic agent and they were off to the next bomb more confident and resolute than before.
The women didn't have much need for words as their bodies cooperated as one; Eden handing over the next vial before Tegan even had to ask for it but something went wrong after the second device was injected.
"What in Sam Hill..." Eden wondered quietly.
Wasn't the timer supposed to die? Wasn't this supposed to be over!?
The security officer blanched.
“Another dose, it’s all I can think of.”
"Might could but," Eden held up the last vial, "it's as dry as a bone."
"I got an idea, wait one," Eden said getting up and running toward the gutted medical kit left behind by Liz not even considering how silly it was to ask someone to wait while time was slipping away but they weren't done just yet, even if they had to fight for every single second they had. The idea of giving up just wasn't on the list of viable options plain and simple.
As soon as her hand snatched up the medical tricorder Eden's body was already primed to turn around and hustle back to the bomb that just wouldn't cooperate. As she closed the space between them she plucked the detachable scanner from its home and dropped to her knees next to Tegan in a huff. "About a year ago I lied to a friend of mine, Mr. Aaron," she spoke aloud to Tegan as if to unburden her soul before meeting her maker as she activated the scanner and dropped it into the whole the engineer had cut earlier, moving it into place with her long fingers as best she could before switching her focus to the tricorder hoping to use her skills to kill to save lives instead, "there is no love without forgiveness."
Seeing everything she needed to see, Eden took the used up device from Tegan unceremoniously and set the tricorder atop the bomb's casing, her heart slamming in her throat and her lungs feeling like she was breathing in helium. There was praying and then there was praying and right now the security officer was seriously praying that her aim would remain true and that this stunt would work. It was a now or never moment and the girl did what she did best and seized the moment, stabbing the metal into the peripheral nervous system of whatever-the-hell it was and depressed the button releasing a hiss of air and wrenched the tool sharply at an angle, closing her eyes tight and grimacing.
The timer began to count down faster than the eye could see until it froze and faded into darkness.
Eden dared to peel one eye open, fully expecting to see a flummoxed St. Peter at the Pearly Gates. That was the stupidest thing you've ever done.
