"Why does it hurt?" Bruce asked quietly, barely more than a whisper, barely intentionally and it was only a second later that he realised this. That and the fact that he was standing in front of the window where his own soured expression stared back at him.
"Great," He exclaimed, flailing his arms in frustration, "I'm talking to myself now."
"Just wonderful, absoul-" He sighed, his eyelids closing as he somehow resisted the urge to not curse aloud.
Why was he talking to himself?
And yet, the answer was right there in front of him. He wasn't sure if the the reflection was really him or his imagination, with the faint details on his face it made him look as if he were scowling at himself. He quickly turned away from the judgement, and as someone who was always against the stick-up-your-arse way of thinking, it was a rarity.
He sighed and collapsed into the chair, his eyes staring first at the ceiling and then the fountain as he settled himself into a proper seating position and leaned forwards. He watched in near silence, as the water sprayed and rained to fall back unto itself to repeat the cycle.
Ever moving but only in one direction.
For a moment he contemplated the engineering necessary to perhaps reverse the water feature's process, it could be done with a bit of tweaking here and there, it was possible. Unfortunately, life wasn't so easy, either to turn back time... or to fix.
His gaze moved from the water to the armrest of the chair and sat upon it was a PADD, and out of all the PADDs he had held, this one meant more to him than he ever would have expected.
It was a transfer order, plain and simple.
From his other assignments, he couldn't care less about transferring as long it was a better ship, had hotter women and all that jazz but here... Bruce looked around the empty lounge, he was alone. There had been plenty of women, sure. but where were his friends, or were they just mere colleagues? Before, he never cared but after being aboard the Talon for so long... he did care.
And that's why it hurt.
