"It's not just that it's been stolen. That coffee...is special."
Zak stared at Sig, curious of the connection this man had with coffee. He tried to figure out what could make it special but he came up with nothing, perhaps when he was off-duty he would ponder it again but for now he had a job to do. The investigation ended as quick as it had started as the entire ship shook and he fought to hold his ground. Another quake of the ship plunged them into momentary darkness before the red alerts flashed to life whilst his face connected with a wall. The hit knocked him off balance but his hand instinctively reached for something to hang onto to steady himself.
Zak managed to stay standing and took the moment to rub his temple and attempted to test whether he might have suffered any concussion. Satisfied by his self-diagnosis, he looked around to see a mixture of moving bodies and unmoving ones. He moved to the nearest immobile form and checked their pulse to confirm the officer had died.
Right now it was only those that were alive and hurt that mattered, hearing Grace's call, he moved to assist the injured in gathering in the center. With every second that passed there seemed to be another patient being helped into sickbay. If they kept up they might fill the entire middle of the room and so, Zak began moving the bodies he knew to be dead away from the living. It was unpleasant and saddening but someone had to do it. He could not help but think about knowing these people, maybe not personally but their names, rank, their position... all that was taken from them in a blink of an eye. An end that few deserved.
For a moment, he had time to think, was it the device in engineering? No, the quakes had clearly been the cause of outside fire except some of the wounds he witnessed... how could that have come from outside? He had no answers and a quick with his commbadge confirmed that communication was also down.
Grabbing a spare tricorder, Zak walked over to Sig. "I'm going to check the deck for any further injured, or trapped." He informed, just so someone would know where he had gone.
With a nod, he turned and left to search the deck, immediately he noticed that somewhere down the corridor, part of the ceiling had caved in, exposing circuitry for the lights above. This only made him more conscious that someone could very well be trapped within a room and possibly injured, or dying... and alone.
