"One can only hope. Sometimes that's all we have...hope."
Grace didn't verbally reply to Sig's words, though she found herself quickly reminded of their current situation. She took a deep breath and continued to work on Eden's leg. All she needed to do was look around to be reminded just how mortal they all were. A few moments later, she paused to let Sig critique the work that she had done.
"Just about perfect."
A slight smile came to Grace's face. She couldn't help but feel a bit of pride settle in. Of course, Doctor Ericson had done all the heavy lifting. She had merely assisted and then come behind him to do only a minor portion of the work that would ultimately save Lieutenant Nivans' leg. With his praise of her job given, Grace went on to finish the procedure and began to close the epidermal layers of her leg.
"Remember, Commander Roman said I can't be limping."
It was honestly a reminder that Grace could have done without. Her mind briefly entertained the notion of how Commander Roman would respond should Eden have even the slightest limp. She was almost tempted to re-open the security officer's leg to double-check everything.
"You'll be able to run after the bad guys very soon. We wouldn't want Roman coming after my favorite nurse, now would we?"
As always, Doctor Ericson had a way of saying encouraging words at just the right moment. It was enough to put the nurse's fears at ease as she finished closing Eden up. "I think that should do it," said Grace. Smiling she looked from Sig to Eden, hoping that both approved. It was then that she heard a slight chime coming from a nearby console. Looking around, no one else seemed available to answer it.
"Excuse me," Grace said as she stepped away, just as Sig gave Eden a PADD to see if she could ascertain what was going on. Moving to the console, Grace noticed a communique from the Bridge, seeking an image of the lifeform.... Grace's eyes widened as she realized she had forgotten all about the specimen that Lieutenant Tekison had brought to Sickbay.
Moving towards it, Grace stared into the containment unit and saw... nothing. Her brow furrowed as she peered around it until a small ivory apprendage pressed against the field. Grace found herself startled as she reeled back. But slowly, a small infant-sized creature pulled itself to standing on a pair of hind legs... it's tail waving to help it gain balance. Grace couldn't believe her eyes. It took her a few moments to recall her purpose for coming over and she activated the feed from the unit's monitoring device. "Doctor?" Grace called out. "I... I think you should see this."
It wasn't that she feared that something was wrong. In fact, Grace couldn't fathom how such growth could happen so quickly. The small lifeform had a truly exponential growth rate unlike anything Grace had ever heard of. It could have possibly had something to do with the environment, but those were questions that they didn't really have time to answer.
