"Um..."
His stalling and that single noise told her there was more going on here than 'it slipped my mind'. Knowing that was both comforting and a little terrifying all at the same time.
But then, she'd never understood William Hunter at the best of times.
"Look, I've been busy."
Busy? They'd all been busy. But no-one was that busy, surely.
His hand ruffled his gown most likely more than he'd intended or realised, giving her a glimpse of what was underneath and tousling his hair all at the same time.
She watched his gaze flit around for a moment then find hers again.
"Why haven't you taken off the necklace?"
The question took her by surprise. She'd sort of expected him to try and avoid the issue, but the direction he'd taken wasn't quite what she'd anticipated.
The one side of her mouth curled up slightly into and half smile and she reached up to her neck and pulled the necklace free from where it was hiding underneath her uniform. The tiger's eye stone twinkled a little in the lights of the medical bay as it fell onto the top of the fabric.
"I like the reminder," she said, matter-of-factly. "Some things shouldn't be forgotten."
Not that she really thought for a minute she could ever forget.
She stepped backwards to the replicator and pressed a couple of buttons, silently requesting a glass of water. The glass materialised into view a moment later and she picked it up and walked back over to Hunter's side.
"I can't believe that you've been using your next of kin records similarly, though," she said, holding out the glass for him to take.
Especially if you've been so... busy.
