As soon as the Talon docked with DS10, the most serious cases were transferred to their medical department for further evaluation, treatment and recuperation. Hunter was one of them, still unconscious, still not as stable as they would like. The surgery had been successful under the capable hands of Bernard, but there was a lot of internal damage that needed time. A meeting of the experts was held, and it was agreed that Osler-Drew's recommendation to let him wake on his own was sound. Sometimes the mind and body just needed to rest and giving a stimulant to wake him was probably not in his best interests.
The medical staff buzzed around the department, stocking shelves, deciding where to put things, and performing quality control on the equipment while the patients rested. Studies had shown that having a quiet time several times a day, with dimmed lights and muted sounds, helped the recovery process, and now was one such time. The staff discussed their business quietly, comms were put on a lower setting, and the usual office horse-play was kept to a minimum.
Hunter woke slowly and became immediately confused as to where he was. This wasn't Sickbay. This wasn't Sig's domain. "Where...?" It hurt to talk because doing so caused his diaphragm to rise with deeper breaths, pulling and pushing areas that were still traumatized. "Hello?"
A nurse hurried over, a wide smile on her face. "Hey there," she said as she checked the vitals that were displayed on the wall. "We were wondering when you were going to join us?"
He gave her a puzzled look.
"You're on DS10 for the duration of your recovery. Can I get you anything?"
"Where's...Sig?"
"I'm sorry?"
"Ericson...where...doctor?"
"Dr. Villegas is your physician. He'll make rounds in about an hour."
"Sig?"
"I don't know who you're talking about, but I'll see if I can find your friend."
Frustrated and alone, Hunter let his head fall back onto the welcoming pillow. Sig should be here. No matter what, Hunter always knew that Sig would be there when things were at their worst. Sig wouldn't let him wake up alone in a strange place.
"DS10?"
She smiled again. "Isn't it great? I can't believe I've been stationed here."
"Where..is...here?" He was starting to get angry.
"Deep Space 10 is located near the Gamma-Cardassian Wormhole. It's new and beautiful and exciting." She pulled out a PADD and tapped on it, then held it so he could see the image of the station from space.
"Why?"
"Why? Why what?"
"Why am I not..." He took a breath and gripped the sheet with his sweaty palms. "...on Talon?"
"Oh." She glanced over her shoulder, but found no miraculously appearing physician to save her. "We'll just let Dr. Villegas talk to you about all of that. Right now, you need to rest. Would you like some ice chips?"
Hunter couldn't for the life of him know why he would want ice chips. "Water?"
"I'm sorry...no food or drink without an order. I can give you ice chips."
"I don't WANT-" He stopped an grimaced, then just waved a hand dismissively. "I want Sig!"
