“I’m not certain. Whatever that is, it’s overpowering the basic programming of my console. I can’t get any kind of response.”
Well wasn't that just wizard? The last thing they needed when they were practically running on a skeleton crew was a 'that' compromising their computers. Then again, with a bit of luck it was just this one console that was malfunctioning or something, rather than a 'that' in the whole systems. But then they were hardly the luckiest crew in the galaxy. Maybe she was just being cynical. Please?
"Do what you do best, Lieutenant,” Jeven simply replied. “Just find me an answer as quickly as you can.”
"With pleasure sir", she responded with what she hoped was a reassuring smile. It would be difficult, but their was no such thing as 'can't', as her grandmother had always said. A wise woman, that one, and someone Julie held a lot of respect for. Mainly because she always seemed to be right. Not that it mattered right now, what did was the PADD being handed to Jalloh with instructions to upload what data he could salvage from the affected console. As she racked her brains to try and recall at least something similar to the writings, as she assumed them to be, it was the PADD's turn to have the mechanical version of a nervous breakdown. Wonderful, she thought just as it began to whine loudly in an alarming manner.
By the time the order to get down had gone out, Julie was already on the floor and bracing herself to be showered in lumps of burned metal. Some things didn't need to be ordered, although it had been more of a warning, to be fair. At least it didn't take long for the ventilation systems to do their thing, and for Roman to put out the smouldering wreck that was a data PADD.
"Am I on the floor, again?", Julie muttered as she pulled herself to her feet. At least she hadn't broken any bones this time, but it would have been nice if she could have gone a full week without finding herself hitting the deck. Realising she may have said that out loud, she bit her lip as Roman asked if anyone was hurt.
"Miraculously, no", she answered as she brushed down her uniform. "Are you okay sir?", she returned the question as she eyed Jeven for any sign of injury before speaking again.
"We had a plan b, right sir?", she asked as the former PADD was carted off to engineering. With the room then being scanned for contaminants, she wondered just what was going on here.
