The large hall, though much smaller than the great hall he’d just left, was impressive in scope as it should be for one of the Klingon Houses surrounding the capital. His boots rang on the stone and steel of the floors and he strode to the great fire pit in the middle of the floor.
“Did you see her?” The voice came from the doorway where his grandmother held the hands of two small boys.
“I did,” he answered with a growl.
“And is she as you expected?”
Mor’Tah went to one knee and motioned for the boys who ran to him. They ripped their hands from the woman’s hands with a squeal and ran to the big man who scooped them up with a smile. He stood up and smiled at Lady Sepha. “Pretty much what I expected.”
“What are you going to do?” Lady Sepha’s face was a mask and her eyes bored into his.
“She will come to see the boys,” he replied. He didn’t really expect her to change her mind about what had happened between them but then she didn’t have all the facts. Many of the facts were still limited and hidden even from Lady Sepha.
He took a deep breath and set Sean down on the ground. Klingon children matured far faster than humans and despite the way a purely human child would have looked at his age he appeared what would have been 4-5 years. He immediately began chasing one of the animals about the room trying to catch its tail.
“But not you?” Sepha never let go of a thread if she could beat it to death.
He smiled and shook his head. “No, they made sure she got an ear full of lies.” He turned away toward a chair and sat with Nicholas in his lap. She knows nothing of the Admiral’s part in all this. Nor mine."
