Diran shook his head to dismiss the idea that he had been offended. It was good of her to consider such things, but he had in fact found it rather amusing! He just wasn't the kind of person to burst and laughing at the slightest provocation. Instead, he chose to focus the words of Doctor Ericsson in response to his own. Aquira, huh? That had been a mission prior his joining of the crew, so he had heard, though he did wonder just how long ago that was. Years, by all accounts, but right now something else had caught his attention.
The creature was no examining him, but not quite in the same curious fashion that it had done so with his more senior colleague. It was tentative, almost as though it was afraid of him for some reason. It stood to reason, he supposed, as he was at least partially a sea dweller, and one who fed on such things. Perhaps it knew this? No, it definitely knew this, as something unseen spooked it into covering him in a purple ink before shooting off into the coral reef.
"Well...I suppose I often have that effect on others", he mused as Alice patted him on the arm. What precisely did she mean by no accounting for taste though? Maybe he didn't want to know, he thought as he watched the creature go, hoping that the other two here did not see fit to do the same. Especially seeing as their liquid of choice would be entirely different...
It was then that a mournful moaning sound echoed through the waters, followed by an exclamation of 'they're here'. Pointing out something in the distance, she swam off, followed by the Starfleet officers. In all honesty (not that he would have it any differently), he wasn't sure if they should get closer. Something about that song made the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end.
Upon closer inspection, these creatures were rather like whales and other similar species from his home world and others he had visited. While there was something quite alluring about them, he would not have chosen the word 'cute' to describe them.
"'Cute', is not the word I would have used.", he responded thoughtfully. "To my eyes, they are inelegant but curious to observe", he then added. Oh well, he was always one to speak exactly what was on his mind. Still, as he said, there was something that made him want to keep watching.
