The thought of another Caliburn officer potentially serving on the Talon gave Midori some joy. It was strange. Though the ship was small she hadn’t really had the chance to get to know all of the crew, and there were still many that survived she’d barely spoken to, but the idea that one could come to the Talon did make her happy. Midori guessed it came down to a certain familiarity with them. Even if they hadn’t spoken before, any survivor of the Caliburn and she would have a wealth of shared experiences with which they could bond over. They wouldn’t necessarily have to like each other, just be able to talk about things on occasion.
But for now it was still just a pleasant daydream. The Caliburn’s roster, much like the ship itself, had been spread out amongst other ships to replace parts lost during the war.
“Nice to hear that you’ve managed to keep friends for so long,” It was sweet but Midori did make note of the third name. Commander Sur’Shess. Lieutenant Star and Lieutenant Kinin were both suspicious figures but the Lieutenant Commander had not come across like that in the reports Midori had heard. Perhaps she had to dig deeper or perhaps that was why the Commander had been promoted to her position.
Then again, Robin was the Chief of Flight Operations.
The higher command structure of the Talon was interesting to say the least. Somehow she didn’t foresee her time here being boring, for more than one reason.
Midori let his comment about them not being able to rescue everyone slide. It was true and it was hard to debate, the Ensign knew that well enough by now. He did appear to be taking on board what she was saying, which was nice. She’s so far managed to gain his confidence and that could prove useful even if he was cleared in this investigation.
“Yes, I suppose two months is a little early to talk about kids,” Then again Midori would have thought that two months was too early to even be privately thinking about them. She was a bias perspective though. It made her wonder if everyone else thought like this when they were in a relationship. Not that she’d been in enough of them herself to know for sure. “But if you’re getting this worked up about it now then... again I’m not sure. I was never one for giving advice on dating.”
What he said next gave Midori a stabbing of guilt in her chest. She had wormed her way into his confidence and in the process she’d forgot how much he was likely suffering. The man had hinted at betrayals in the past. It’d be best not to add to those traumas...
But Midori was a curious person and dedicated to her job. Sometimes you had to be a little mean to perform those duties properly... to ensure that people were really safe. So that’s why she pushed a little further even whilst her own guts turned.
“Not the most suited?” She said. “Sir, you’re a Superior Officer and in charge of a department of the ship. I can’t imagine how a hand from you couldn’t be helpful.”
