“I don’t know yet, but this Lily is obviously angered enough to not think of everything. Hopefully it doesn’t stop with this.”
Tahp made an enigmatic motion with one of her hands, obviously an Etimonian ritual close to the crossing of fingers for humans.
“Oohh, interphase folds.”
Looking up from her surveys, Tahp stared into space, trying to wrap her head, with its limited knowledge, around interphase folds. Shaking her head, she knew if she kept daydreaming about complex theories, she'd never come up for air, so she returned her attention to the sensors.
“Tahp, let’s organize your findings and send them to the Commander as well… including anything else you think would be helpful."
"Yes, ma'am," Tahp replied as she began to put the information into as concise a report as possible.
"Any idea of what it means?"
"Me," she squeaked, shocked that Seia would dare to dream that Tahp had any answers. "I don't even know what an interphase fold is!"
All embarrassment was forgotten with the sudden and frightening news that they had just lost Commander Sig Ericson. Tahp's eyes filled with tears. He had been a kind man, gentle and caring, and Lily had forced him to die so that his children would live, all out of some sort of vendetta against the ship. Tahp's arms drooped down beside her. "Who cares about interphase folds?! Who cares about sensor readings," she shouted.
This wasn't right, it should never have happened. Even worse, Ericson's life, his memories, his very essence, was probably lost, as all human spirit was when they died. It sickened her and made her angry. Smashing a finger on the 'send' button, Tahp straightened up. "I need to care," she corrected herself. "If we can find a way to stop her from forcing anyone else, we need to do it, no matter the cost."
Turning, she looked at Seia, her eyes huge as saucers. "Bre'anah," she said, her expression willing the woman to understand.
