Personality: Reese Harper is an optimistic kind of guy and prefers to see the glass as half full rather than half empty. He enjoys the company of others owing to having grown up with three siblings and likes to spend a lot of his off duty time in communal areas. When meeting new people Reese has learned to not jump to conclusions and keeps a fairly open mind about anything, though sometimes this slips and he can make a rash judgement if the situation is tense or otherwise not helping his mood.
Reese is an inquisitive man and also quite curious. He likes to know what is going on around him, but sometimes finds that his questions gets him too much information.
Background and History: With three older sisters, Reese has always been the baby of the family and his siblings always looked out for him. His father, Nicolas Harper, is a school teacher and his mother, Ellen Harper, is a gardener. His sisters are; Amy, 8 years older, Ruth, 6 years older, and Megan, three years older. From a very young age Reese was always interested in how things worked and anything that moved, and so began taking apart anything he could lay his hands on. His family had to start hiding things in high up cupboards just to stop him from being able to get at them. He was good at taking things apart, but when it came to putting things back together again he struggled for a few years, till he was eventually as good at putting things back together again. At school his parents encouraged him to take up additional mechanical engineering courses. He became interested in the history of engineering and how old Earth motorcars worked.
Two of his sisters joined Starfleet; Amy as a helmsman, Ruth a nurse. Megan followed in her father's footsteps and became a teacher. When Amy left to join the academy, Reese found it a struggle till his parents bought him a dog for his eleventh birthday, a Belgian Malinois that he adored, who helped him when the other two also left home.
As soon as he turned 18 in 2394, he went for the academy entrance exams and passed with flying colours, earning himself a position at Starfleet Academy. There were no guesses what course he was going for. During his spare time he managed to replicate and find enough parts to build himself a working Red Volks Wagon Beetle from the early 21st century, though did have to adapt the engine for 24th century fuel. Four years later in 2398 he graduated, one of the top in his class and was assigned to the U.S.S Toronto. He donated the car to a museum in San Francisco.
In 2403 he was promoted to Lieutenant JG. Harper was again promoted in 2408 to full Lieutenant. He remained on the Toronto till August 2409 when it was recalled to Earth to participate in the war. It was destroyed during a battle; the Captain and First Officer went down with their ship. Just forty-seven of the crew were able to make it off alive. When the war was declared over, Harper remained on Earth to help with the cleanup and to help repair vital buildings and ships.
Now Lieutenant Harper has been assigned to the U.S.S Talon, and is looking forward to being back out in space and exploring again.

Sample Roleplay:
A delicate hand was needed as Reese Harper carefully placed his little stick on the pile. With his choice made, the sticks didn't morph. Obviously the wrong choice to make. He hung his head in defeat as his younger friend placed his stick and the object morphed into a finished game.
“Kal-toh!” A young man in a red uniform grinned at Reese. “Want to play again?”
The engineer shook his head from side to side. “I'd love to, but that's three games in a row. Besides, my shift starts in a few minutes.” Reese stood up from his chair and looked at another friend that was sitting there, a Vulcan. “What have you taught him that you haven't taught me?” He asked, pointing a finger at the other man as if he was accusing him of favouritism, though it was really just a joke. As if a Vulcan would have favouritism between Humans.
“I have taught you both equally.” The Vulcan officer replied, not seeming too bothered by the accusation, as he too stood up from his chair. “It just so happens that Mr Bond has grasped the rules of Kal-toh quicker than you. If you'd like I can give you some more practice before you try to play him again.”
Harper nodded his head. “Thanks. I'd like that. Well... we'd better get to work before we're late. See you later, James.”
“Until next time, Lieutenant. And remember the drinks you promised!” The young man grinned more and he relaxed back in his chair. His shift wasn't starting for a little while.
Reese waved the comment off as they left ten forward and headed for the nearest turbolift, glancing down to the pad in his hand as a message popped up giving him his orders. “Ok... Commander Wren wants you and me to run a diagnostic on the runabouts. According to the logs the thrusters weren't responding like they should have during the run in with the Valurans yesterday.”
“Pre-flight checks were carried out before launch and everything was well within normal parameters. I checked them myself.”
Reese nodded his head. “So obviously something happened just after they left, or something in the planet's atmosphere disrupted them. Either way, it's our job to figure out exactly what.”
