The journey to the Temple was short, just a quick climb down from the slight elevation of the forest. Tahp hid in the darkness, listening. Further down the hill, the lights of the Festival broke the darkness and Tahp took care not to let the illumination ruin her night vision. Over to the left, a cliff began, the broken surface covered in precious stones. To the right, a waterfall. The Temple was placed between water and gems, the perfect location of beauty.
Spires of aqua color mixed with striations of white rose upwards, supporting the semi-opaque roof of silvery luminescence. The floor of the Temple was dewy moss and Tahp's footsteps were completely quiet as she moved across it. True to form, the Pelebians had set no guard, no alarms. They were a trusting people and Tahp hated to bring them into a brutal reality.
The minerals were displayed in an intricate pattern on a raised wooden surface that had been carved lovingly by skilled artisans, and Tahp resisted the urge to run her fingers over its smoothness. She carefully let her eyes travel over all of the rocks until she found the one that was the source of the mission, and even then she continued to examine the others, just in case there were more. Unfortunately for the Pelebians, there were not. She would be taking the only one.
Reaching out, she was about to pick up her target when a sound from behind her caused her to whip around in alarm.
