"I didn't exactly leave a good first impression on my..."
Her lips pursed slightly, though she didn't say a word.
"Actually... no... no I assumed it because I was projecting. Its easier to justify self pity when you create an atmosphere where you believe everyone thinks the way you do."
The virtual lightbulb couldn't be any brighter over his head and she smiled.
"You were annoyed with me, Jenison was disgusted by me... Tahp hated me... but that was all in my head, wasn't it?"
"Not quite," she replied. "But not to the extent you probably assume others reacted to the things you did." A pause from her let him know she was rethinking what she said. "Though Tahp is a different story. I think she still has much to resolve about what happened, though you two seemed to be fixing some of it."
"All she wanted was comfort, or contact."
"Dorian was all about hugs," she said. "They are still not my thing, but others seem to crave them."
"That's not all, though... there are cadets here getting more experience than they ever would, plus they have the advantage of an experienced officer and someone who has been through all this. They are practically ready to be officers right now."

"Wh-"
"And on board this ship, there is at least one example where Monroe's gamble paid off, and now she's my superior officer. I have to be blind to not see that."
