The Talon runs on a 3 shift schedule in theory, with each member of the crew serving 8 hour shifts. That said, it would be EXTREMELY awkward and frustrating to only be able to RP your character on duty during specific hours. If you want your character to be involved in an active plot, put them in there. You don't have to wait until your shift. It would be completely plausible for your character to have switched shifts with someone, or, during an alert, to come lend a hand. Don't stress about shifts. Shifts work fine in the real world, but really suck in the RP world. Enough said, I hope.
Executive Staff
Commodore: Commodores command groups of ships, as opposed to captains commanding single ships or units, or they may be used in sensitive Federation matters, overseeing a particular tenuous situation. They are also known as "Rear admiral-lower half."
Captain: Captains of starships, often located hundreds of light years away from and out of communications with higher authority, must be able to function autonomously and make independent command decisions affecting Federation policy and countless lives. Accordingly, few Starfleet officers ever gain the captaincy of a starship, the result of decades of sustained excellence as a Starfleet leader.
First Officer: (abbreviated XO) Aboard a starship the first officer was the second-in-command, just below the captain. Specific activities will include developing, preparing and implementing logistics-support plans, including forecasting, supply schedules and operational issues that may arise during the transfer of goods and services. You will serve as the principal liaison between the ship/station and suppliers and implement strategy and tools to ensure the coordination of materials and goods follows a streamlined process that is as error-free as possible. Finally, you will advise senior management on staffing levels and inventory, suggesting changes that may be needed to meet the requirements of the established logistics strategy. You will also be responsible for crew quarters assignments and arranging for large group housing should the need arise.
Supply Chief (Quartermaster): Inspects completed work for accuracy and compliance with established procedures. Coordinates supply activities. Reviews and annotates changes to unit material condition status report.
Supply Assistant: Receives, inspects, inventories, loads, unloads, segregates, stores, issues, delivers and turns-in organization and installation supplies and equipment. Prepares all unit/organizational supply documents.
Stewards: A person who looks after the crew and guests, seeing to their needs. Would have the rank of crewman.
Janitor: Perform heavy cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, cleaning executive fish tanks, and removing rubbish. Duties may include performing routine maintenance activities and notifying management of need for repairs.
Head Chef: In charge of daily menus for the buffet in the mess hall as well as providing food for staff meetings, dignitary functions, parties, etc. Supervises the culinary staff. Educates and instructs the crew about better nutrition.
Sous Chef: Assistant to the head chef. The Sous Chef is there to make the Chef look good. They do the grunge work; they learn their trade and refine their skills. They assure the establishment is sending out the best quality food they can.
Medical
Doctor: A Doctor of Medicine, abbreviated MD, is a Federation title to an accredited medical physician. A physician practices in the field of medical science. It is a physician's duty to save the lives of ailing patients, while at the same time preserve the life of healthy patients. It is also a requirement of a medical practitioner to have a certain sensitivity to properly address a patient.
Medic: A medic is an individual trained in medicine who administers medical first aid where needed and to assist the doctors and nurses as required.
Nurse: A nurse is a healthcare professional who, in collaboration with other members of a health care team, is responsible for: treatment, safety, and recovery of acutely or chronically ill individuals; health promotion and maintenance within families, communities and populations; and, treatment of life-threatening emergencies in a wide range of health care settings. Nurses perform a wide range of clinical and non-clinical functions necessary to the delivery of health care, and may also be involved in medical and nursing research.
Counselor: A counselor is an individual trained in psychology/Psychiatry and is responsible for the mental well-being of the crew and civilian staff. The ship's counselor also has a diplomatic role, advising the captain in first contact and other situations. As with the chief medical officer, the ship's counselor has the power to relieve other officers and crewmembers of duty if he or she feels that their patient is suffering from a condition that may hinder their ability to perform their duties effectively.
Science
Chief Science Officer: This Chief is the individual responsible for overseeing scientific investigations and for providing the ship's Captain with scientific information needed for command decisions. The science officer's station on the Bridge of most Federation starships included extensive tie-ins to the various Sensor systems, as well as links to the ships library computer system.
